The Penguin is a wondrous addition to the BatVerse in all its elements from the cast to the storytelling, direction, as well as its production and set design.
Episodes 1-3 set up beautifully the foundations for The Penguin’s operations in Gotham, away from just being a glorified chauffeur for the Falcones to running his own operation. Colin Farrell played his role wondrously by the incredible Christine Millioti as Sofia Falcone. The script they follow, as well as the production design of Gotham City being not only on par with The Batman (2022) but also expanding beyond that for Gotham’s underworld…is just *chef’s kiss*. Incredible.
Episode 4 I had already seen before without any context; being the first of the show I saw. It was brilliant already on its own and seeing it again with the context of what was released prior as well. Christin Milioti absolutely killed it in the role as Sofia, I genuinely would have never expected that given the only other work I saw with her in it was How I Met Your Mother (2005 – 2014). She steals the show beautifully in both, Milioti is genuinely an incredibly talented star.

Episodes 5-6 dealing with the aftermath of The Penguin’s actions, was beautifully made. While my favorite is episode 4, these two delivered on being a strong bridge between the foundations built previously and the explosive final two episodes. Lauren LeFranc truly did a brilliant job running this show, and I truly hope she’s put on many more projects in the future. Alongside the episodes, I also watched the behind the scenes among other special features included and the amount of passion beaming off of her for this project truly shows why this series is so good. It is because, she truly loves what she does. Not only her but the others involved as well..Colin Farrell, Christin Millioti, Matt Reeves, Kalina Ivanov, and more. It’s genuinely a big perk for each and every person who has it on his or her resume.
Episodes 7-8 delivered some of the best things throughout the limited series, second only to episode 4 (seriously, I’d love a The Hangman limited series). The flashbacks showing a young Penguin, as just young Oz Cobb and what they reveal about the president, with Sofia Gigante pushing for truth out of him and his mother is truly incredible work. I appreciate the way these scenes are shot; not that much switching even though it could be even less at times.
Conclusion

★★★★★
Conclusively, everything in this series comes together wondrously. It’s something truly beautiful. I quite enjoyed this watch, and I’m glad they made it. It’s an incredibly written, acted, and filmed limited series that deserves all the praise it gets.
